THE HEART AND VASCULAR CENTER
IN THE ALBERTINE HOSPITAL
All non-invasive cardiac examinations take place in our practice premises at Stephansplatz. We perform the diagnostic and therapeutic catheter examinations at the Heart and Vascular Center of the Albertinen Hospital. As a patient, you have the advantage of treatment in a personal atmosphere by your attending physician from the Esplanade practice, without having to forego the advantages of a high-performance hospital with its intensive therapy and surgical facilities.
Location:
Herz- und Gefäßzentrum - Albertinen-Krankenhaus, Süntelstraße 11a, 22457 Hamburg (Germany)
Performance of a cardiac catheter examination
Cardiac catheterization (coronary angiography) is used to visualize the coronary arteries of the heart using contrast medium via a cardiac catheter probe. The examination is performed under local anesthesia via the wrist or groin artery and takes about 30 min. If necessary, a mild anesthetic can be administered. After the cardiac catheterization, follow-up for 4 hours is required.
Stenting and coronary angioplasty
If a narrowing (stenosis) of the coronary arteries is detected during cardiac catheterization, it can be treated by balloon catheter or stent. Drug-eluting stents have become the treatment of choice.
